I have see the ads during Mythbusters for Prototype This!. I’ll admit, it looked interesting, so I set sail for The Pirates Bay.
I found and downloaded Episode 1. I hope it’s the last episode. Seriously. To quote Calculon “That was so terrible, I think you gave me cancer!”
It’s become evident that Discovery is attempting to replicate the success of Mythbusters and failing. First Smash Lab and now Prototype This!. Give it up guys.
Prototype This! was a Prototype Miss! on all fronts. The narrator spent so much time babbling about what the team was doing that you didn’t get to know any of the team members. I can’t even remember their names, at this point..a Joe, maybe a Mike or Matt? Some guy with a weak accent and a guy from M.I.T. with a robotics degree. That’s about it. No ladies on this team(!).
The project was lame. Construct an interface to shut off the car in the event of road rage by using biometrics to monitor heart rate, perspiration and a few other readings. They obtain five cars, then spend the first part of the show smashing the hell out of the car with sledge hammers to see how “durable” and “find where we needed to reinforce” the car. I would hope these wizards can tell the difference between being struck by an 8 pound sledge and a crowbar and being struck by a 2000 pound car. So after demolishing one of the cars, then then take the cars to a demolition derby expert, with having built more then 200 demolition derby cars, and have each of the cars outfitted to parcipate in a demolition derby. I’m assuming this means safty cages, replacemnt tanks, glass removal, etc.
A few of the team members work on building a remote control system for the cars, because you know, and on team member put it, “it’s dangerous”. Give me a break. Really, you cannot drive the demolition derby car with your “invention”?
It was just a big bucket of FAIL. I wish I had the last two hours of my life back. I disliked it enough to stop seeding way short of 1. Like .19. Sorry, I’m not going to be involved with the propagation of this junk. Bandwidth may be cheap, but I don’t have an abundance of it at this point and I would rather be using it for the propagation and distribution of non-crap files.
